Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan
The Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan (BSOP) is Belize’s national framework for Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), developed to guide the sustainable use and management of the country’s ocean space, including its internal waters, territorial sea, and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Built through a participatory, science-based, and adaptive process, the BSOP supports a balanced approach to conservation, sustainable development, and the growth of Belize’s Blue Economy. BSOP represents the resulting plan and broader national initiative that was achieved through the MSP planning process.
The BSOP outlines key components including its purpose, governance structure, vision, guiding principles, goals, zoning design, and spatial information related to Belize’s priority marine and coastal sectors.
Following the 60-day public inspection and review period, the BSOP was revised to its final version. Next steps include the final approval, legalization, and gazetting of the plan which is expected to be completed by November 2026.
