Draft BSOP
The Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan (BSOP) is Belize’s national framework for Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), developed to guide the sustainable use and management of the country’s ocean space, including its internal waters, territorial sea, and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Built through a participatory, science-based, and adaptive process, the BSOP supports a balanced approach to conservation, sustainable development, and the growth of Belize’s Blue Economy. BSOP represents the resulting plan and broader national initiative that was achieved through the MSP planning process.
The BSOP outlines key components including its purpose, governance structure, vision, guiding principles, goals, zoning design, and spatial information related to Belize’s priority marine and coastal sectors.
Public Inspection Period
As part of the formal adoption process, the BSOP is now open for a 60-day public inspection and review period. Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to explore the plan, share feedback, and attend consultation meetings that will be happening across Belize in June and July. Your participation will contribute to shaping the future sustainable management of Belize’s ocean space.
